The 3rd Edition Reimagined: Videos, Animations, Procedures, and an Evolving Online Compendium with Study Tools. Here is an example of online resources available with the 3rd edition.
The first edition of the Vein Book was published in 2006 as the vision of one of the greatest contributors to the field of vascular surgery and venous and lymphatic medicine, Dr. John Bergan. Dr. John Bergan founded the Division of Vascular Surgery at Northwestern and started the first Vascular Surgery Fellowship. He co-founded the American Venous Forum and American College of Phlebology. Dr. Bergan served as President for all of the major vascular societies, including the Society for Vascular Surgery, the European‑American Venous Symposium, the American Venous Forum, the International Association of Vascular Surgeons, the Chicago Surgical Society, the Gulf Coast Vascular Society, and the Southern California Vascular Surgical Society, and the American College of Phlebology. He served as a member of the editorial boards of all of the major vascular surgery journals such as the Journal of Vascular Surgery, Annals of Vascular Surgery, and the British Journal of Surgery. He also started the first Phlebology Fellowship in the United States. He published over 700 papers and edited or co-edited 34 books on Vascular Topics, nine of which deal with venous problems.
Dr. Bergan was passionate about venous and lymphatic disorders and was a mentor and valued colleague by many of the past and current US and international leaders in this discipline.
In 2004, Dr. Bergan brought together many of the world’s experts to publish a comprehensive book on vein disorders, the first edition of The Vein Book. The second edition was published in 2014and I was fortunate to work with Dr. Bergan on as a co-editor. Now, a decade later I was more than thrilled when the Oxford University Press supported the imitative to create an updated version of this textbook.
The third edition of The Vein Book
Along with co-editors, Dr. Neil Khilnani, Dr. Nisha Bunke, and Dr. BB Lee, we are honored to have the opportunity to continue Dr. Bergan’s commitment to advancing the care of patients with venous and lymphatic disorders by reimagining acomprehensive textbook dedicated to vein disorders. We hope third edition can become a resource for post-graduate trainees in multiple specialties as well as useful to physicians and other medical professionals already caring for patients with venous and lymphatic disease.
The anticipated readership of this book is students, prospective vascular physicians studying for board exams or the seasoned physician refreshing their knowledge.
The new edition table of contents is re-organized and more comprehensive focused on clinical presentations of venous disorders along with an in-depth review of lymphatic disorders. We anticipate this textbook will become a complement other current textbooks including The Handbook of Venous and Lymphatic Disorders. A key feature is this edition will include an online compendium with questions and answers, which we expect will be a valuable study companion for specialty board exams.
